Leslie enjoyed the company of writers and frequented the famed roundtable at the Algonquin Hotel where wits like Dorothy Parker and Robert Benchley gathered to drink martinis and outwit the wits. drunken Leslie describes  critic "George Jean Nathan—that rude little Homo Sapiens." who opines
 “The Green Hat” is flapdoodle" The critics."Note further that Leslie Howard is also in the cast. He is likened, wittily, to everything from an undertaker to the leaning tower of Pisa."
